IRU joins ‘LEARN project’ for carbon footprint tracking

2 Nov 2016

IRU is participating in the LEARN project (Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reduction Network), which will provide the logistics industry with a consistent emissions calculation system to standardise carbon footprint tracking.

Initiated by the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC), LEARN addresses the challenge of greenhouse gas emission regulation. The project will establish co-ordinated networks between industry, government and communities to drive transparent measurements across all modes of transport, throughout the global logistics supply chain, to help reduce carbon emissions.

Current practice involves many different methodologies and reporting formats, requested by diverse customers, countries and authorities, and the lack of a harmonised approach is a major market barrier.

Devised to support logistics-related business decisions and industry-wide implementation of reform, LEARN is funded by the European Commission and was launched on 1 October 2016. LEARN is coordinated by SFC (Smart Freight Centre), with a total of 13 partners (including IRU Projects) taking part in the consortium and will continue for a period of 30 months.
