IRU’s innovation and research drives intelligent transport

21 Sep 2018

IRU showcased new developments in smart mobility, automation, digitalisation, logistics, and other cutting-edge intelligent transport systems at the ITS World Congress in Copenhagen this week.

Giving an overview of the latest innovations and research into smart mobility, digitalisation and platform development, IRU shared details on current projects, including AEOLIX, CAPITAL and C-MobILE. IRU also led an executive session on energy efficiency in freight transport.

Secretary General, Umberto de Pretto, met with government officials and industry leaders to discuss smart mobility’s contribution to environmentally sustainable economic growth.  He expressed the need for policymakers to take into account the perspective and interests of the commercial road transport industry.

Mr de Pretto also took the opportunity to try out self-driving vehicles and to engage in one-to-one discussions with industry leaders.

ITS solutions apply information and communication technologies to various transport fields such as road infrastructure and traffic management to maximise efficiency in transport.  ITS helps ensure that transport users are able to safely navigate transport networks and promotes the visibility of multimodal transport options.
Further discussions on ITS solutions will take place at the IRU World Congress from 6-8 November in Muscat, Oman, where partners in innovation will share a deeper dive into the future of road transport on ITS topics such as next generation platforms and autonomous road transport.
