Talks on TIR progress with Vietnam

Showing keen interest in the economic benefits of implementing TIR, and following the recent accession to the TIR Convention by China, its biggest trading partner, Vietnam is moving ever closer to adopting the global customs transit system. 

IRU today welcomed a high level delegation from Vietnam Customs and the Vietnam Mission including, Vu Ngoc Anh, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs. IRU gave a briefing on transport and trade facilitation, underlining specific regional considerations and focusing on TIR’s advantages for boosting economic development and trade volumes in Vietnam.

The delegation introduced recent activities in the country, including participation in international conventions. They showed their strong interest in TIR, which is backed by an effective guarantee system to further streamline and modernise Vietnamese customs procedures. The meeting also highlighted IRU’s innovative work to take TIR into the future through the fully electronic eTIR, as well as on piloting TIR for intermodal transport.
