Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan complete first eTIR operations

12 May 2026 · Prosperity

The first eTIR transport operations between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan mark a major milestone for the digitalisation of international road transport in Central Asia.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have successfully completed their first two eTIR transport operations, demonstrating growing momentum for digital transit solutions in the region.

The first covered the transport of vehicles from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan, while the second carried vehicle parts in the opposite direction. IRU members AIRTO KR in Kyrgyzstan and ABBAT in Tajikistan issued the eTIR electronic guarantees.

Both operations were processed through the eTIR National Application developed by UNECE to allow countries to use this off-the-shelf solution to fast-track eTIR.

To support implementation, UNECE and IRU organised eTIR training sessions for customs officials and transport stakeholders in Osh (Kyrgyzstan), Kyzyl Bel (Kyrgyzstan) and Khujand (Tajikistan), with support from AIRTO KR, ABBAT and the customs administrations of both countries.

The operations reflect close cooperation between customs authorities, road transport associations, IRU and UNECE to advance digital transport across Central Asia.

IRU and UNECE will continue working with national authorities and partners to expand eTIR implementation across Central Asia and beyond, helping improve efficiency, security and cross-border connectivity.
