Innovation tops the transport agenda in Washington DC

12 Jan 2017

IRU highlights the latest road transport industry innovations at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) 96th Annual Meeting in Washington DC.

Presenting current innovation-led initiatives, IRU outlined how it is addressing road transport trends with the development of innovative goods and passenger mobility services.

Progress on digitalising goods transport (through solutions such as eTIR and eCMR) was emphasised as a means to increase efficiency, reduce costs, minimise the environmental impact of the industry and improve road safety.

Work on vehicle automation and connectivity, as well as collaborative projects on route planning in cooperation with PTV Group, training and accreditation schemes by IRU Academy and the research work performed by IRU Projects, were among the services highlighted.

Joining the annual gathering of policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions, IRU was among more than 12,000 transport professionals from around the world, promoting the conference theme: Transportation Innovation: Leading the Way in an Era of Rapid Change.

IRU engaged in further transportation events, including meetings with the World Bank on improving transportation mobility and efficiency, and discussions with the American Trucking Associations (ATA), the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), and the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), as well as with potential member United Motor-coach Association (UMA) to review cooperation and commercial opportunities.
