Delegation from the Afghan government meets IRU

A delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce and the Ambassador of Afghanistan to the World Trade Organization (WTO) met with IRU Secretary General, Umberto de Pretto, to speak about trade facilitation and the importance of TIR for Afghanistan and its key role as a transit country for the region connecting Central Asia and South Asia.

Deputy Minister Mr. Bin Shah underlined the paramount importance of road transport for building better regional connectivity. He furthermore stressed that Afghanistan will build on efforts made, in order to establish an effective regulatory framework and implement measures to support trade and transit by working closely with IRU and through learning from best practices.

Umberto de Pretto said: “IRU is there to support Afghanistan in its vision to become a leading land bridge country in the region and TIR can help to achieve this and the implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) even faster.”
