Emergency call demo truck starts tour in Turin

11 Oct 2017

IRU Projects announces the kick-off of its pan European emergency call system (eCall) for heavy goods vehicles (HGV) Demo Tour, which begins a European road trip in Turin, demonstrating the system and stopping in three further cities.

eCall is triggered manually by vehicle occupants or automatically by a device when sensors detect the impact of a serious traffic accident. The I_HeERO project goes even further by highlighting the potential of eCall to save lives in the case of road accidents involving trucks. The system relies on digital data exchange – such as that provided by e-CMR – with a focus on its application to vehicles carrying hazardous goods.

The demo tour involves a truck that will tour various European sites, offering participants practical information on the safety benefits of eCall. The truck will stop in Turin, Italy on 10 and 11 October (as part of the Smart Mobility World Congress); Ljubljana, Slovenia on 16 October; Athens, Greece, on 24 October; and Ostrava, Czech Republic on 30 and 31 October.

All new cars and vans sold in the EU since 31 March 2017 have been required to have an eCall device installed. I_HeERO is co-funded by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme. Visit the project website for a detailed agenda and/or to confirm your participation in one of the events.
