IRU partners with Asian Development Bank on transport digitalisation

23 Apr 2021 · Prosperity, Innovation

IRU is working with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to facilitate trade with greater digitalisation along the Shymkent-Tashkent-Khudjand trade corridor, which connects Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

This week, IRU participated in a virtual workshop organised by ADB, with the support of the Tajik government, to share insights on how eTIR could be leveraged to drive transparent, secure and legal trade along the corridor.

IRU called on countries in the region to leverage TIR digital tools to further facilitate border crossing by establishing TIR Green Lanes along the corridor.

Transport digitalisation is growing in the Central Asia region, with successful eTIR pilots between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in 2020. IRU will continue to proactively work for greater implementation of eTIR, enabling operators and societies to share in the economic, security and efficiency benefits.
