eTIR is gaining momentum in Central Asia, with cross-border operations planned in the near future.
Tajikistan Customs, with active support from UNECE, IRU and IRU member ABBAT, has successfully deployed the eTIR national application in the country, marking a major step towards the operationalisation of digital TIR procedures.
Customs authorities have two options to connect to eTIR: directly or via the eTIR national application, a UN open-source tool.
The deployment demonstrates that the eTIR national application can serve as a practical fast-track solution for countries seeking to transition to digital TIR operations, even in technically challenging environments. It also highlights the effectiveness of a coordinated approach between IRU, UNECE, IRU members and customs authorities, offering a scalable model for wider adoption.
The move will support the development of interconnected eTIR corridors across Central Asia and beyond, beginning with a corridor connecting Tajikistan with Uzbekistan.
Training sessions were organised for customs officers across several regional offices as part of the rollout. Meetings were also held with senior leadership from the Tajikistan Customs Service, who reaffirmed strong support for the digitalisation of TIR procedures and enhanced regional cooperation.
The deployment forms part of broader efforts to extend eTIR corridors, with connections to Türkiye expected in the coming months.
