Reshaping mobility for the future – IRU leads ambitious calls for innovation in Dubai

16 Nov 2016

IRU presented a range of industry-changing innovations for the future mobility of people and goods during the 2nd International Conference on Future Mobility in Dubai.

Welcoming more than 250 delegates from twenty five countries, the Conference followed announcements that twenty five per cent of all public transport systems in the UAE will be autonomous by 2030.

Revealing extensive work in innovation-led projects, IRU presented initiatives to digitise goods supply chains, such as electronic consignment notes (eCMR), electronic trade facilitation schemes (eTIR) and route planning.

Work on passenger transport focused on UpTop – the global taxi network – and the worldwide taxi connectivity platform. Electrification of road transport was highlighted through an IRU project to raise awareness of the benefits and potential challenges of operating electric taxi fleets.

IRU called on private sector companies, leading the way in innovation, as well as transport operators, to join its work in re-shaping mobility for the future.

The annual summit involved key international and regional Government Authorities, Regulators and Associations, including the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE), the UK Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, the European Commission, IRU, and the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.
