IRU urges transport focus in Eurasian digitalisation drive

16 Jun 2021 · Prosperity, Innovation

IRU has urged Eurasian countries to accelerate digitalisation efforts to boost transport and trade connections.

Speaking at the third Eurasian Digital Forum, which took place this month in Minsk in a hybrid virtual/physical format, Vadim Zakharenko, IRU’s General Delegate to Eurasia, focused on improving links within and beyond the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Along with advocating for eTIR, e-CMR and other IRU trade-related IT tools, Vadim Zakharenko also presented IRU’s latest analysis of the pandemic’s impact on road transport and reinforced IRU’s urgent call for action to support the industry.

IRU joined ministers and officials responsible for transport and digital transformation from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Eurasian Economic Commission as well as the Eurasian Development Bank for the high-level plenary session at the Forum.

The event debated key challenges and opportunities in creating a common digital space across Eurasia in different sectors. More than 500 professionals from 15 countries attended the Forum.
