IRU Secretary General, Umberto de Pretto, met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon at the first UN Global Conference on Sustainable Transport. IRU highlighted the exemplary public private partnership which has existed between the UN and the IRU since 1948, the first PPP in the UN's history that has resulted in the effective facilitation of trade and transport and laid the foundation for sustainable transport around the world.

Independent audit finds no evidence for allegations against IRU management
Statement from Christian Labrot, IRU President. An independent audit has dismissed allegations made against current IRU management by a former employee last April. The allegations related to IRU’s TIR insurance scheme, dating back to 1995, and the financial model used to calculate IRU’s reserves.

The IRU-led public-private Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport® (GPST®) has been recognised as the primary tool to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the transport sector at the first ever Global Conference on Sustainable Transport, held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on 26 and 27 November 2016.
Integrated, personalised, on-demand urban transport: pilot project milestone for the future of mobility
appTaxi – a partner of IRU’s global taxi network UpTop – is part of a pioneering Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) pilot project in Italy, coming into force in early 2017. IRU’s UpTop member, appTaxi, which geo-locates customers and matches them to the nearest taxi, will be added to the integrated transport platform, myCicero, currently offering just parking, bus, metro and train.
New vision for collective passenger transport in East Africa with launch of regional high level group
A new high-level group of leading East African and international transport stakeholders has launched in Nairobi today. Jointly initiated by UN-Habitat and IRU, the East African Community (EAC) Smart Move high level group will work for a period of one year to devise a roadmap for boosting collective passenger transport in EAC’s cities and on EAC’s roads by 2030. Benefits include better transport services, reduced CO2, more jobs, fewer road deaths and reduced road congestion by up to fifteen percent.
Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) commits to improve road safety
IRU Academy’s role in combatting road death and injury, and the benefits of improved safety to transport efficiency, were highlights at recent Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) meetings in Tehran. Reinforcing the importance of road safety to commercial road transport operations, IRU Academy was recognised for its work in setting international best practices and a road transport professional qualification framework for the industry.
Turkey marks fifty years of TIR and a future with eTIR at International Black Sea Transport Forum
Turkey looks back on fifty years since accession to TIR and looks forward to the forthcoming implementation of the fully digital eTIR system. The International Black Sea Transport Forum also outlines plans for further inter-regional expansion and improved intermodal development in the Gulf, the Black Sea, Mediterranean and Caspian Sea.

Addressing urban transport professionals as well as international experts at the annual Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo, the group outlined a roadmap for achieving sustainable electromobility as a way forward for decarbonising transport in India.
