IRU prepares ground in Oman for TIR accession

16 Feb 2017

IRU has taken part in an initial TIR workshop in Oman that addressed all elements and activities necessary for the potential implementation of the TIR System. Oman Customs, Oman Global Logistics Group and the Ministry of Transport and Communications, expressed their firm support for the TIR system as a key trade facilitation and customs modernisation tool. The three parties agreed to form a committee and start the preparation for the implementation of the TIR system as Oman is expected to accede to the TIR convention in the near future.

IRU also took the opportunity to meet with the leadership of Oman Global Logistics Group. Both organisations have agreed on key areas of cooperation including the TIR system implementation, access and implementation of other key UN road transport conventions, and training and certification in commercial road transport.

In addition, IRU met with the senior leadership of Mwasalat, Oman’s public transport company. Both organisations discussed the establishment of a framework of cooperation on passenger transport and professional qualifications for taxis, buses, and coaches.
