Georgia’s Land Transport Agency will strengthen professional standards in road transport by implementing IRU Examiner for the examination and certification of drivers and transport managers.
Georgia’s Land Transport Agency (LTA) has chosen IRU Examiner, an examination and accreditation solution, to elevate professional competence in international road transport.
The initiative supports implementation of the ECMT Quality Charter for International Road Haulage Operations, particularly its requirements relating to the professional qualifications of drivers and transport managers.
With IRU Examiner, LTA will extend its focus beyond training to a broader professional qualification framework in which training, examination and certification are connected through consistent standards and methodologies.
IRU Examiner provides authorities and examination bodies with a framework based on international standards, including ECMT and EU requirements. It combines assessment methodologies, examination questions and tools, practical assessment checklists, and examination and certification processes, while allowing implementation to be adapted to national requirements.
IRU Director of Certification and Standards Patrick Philipp said, “By building national capacity around internationally benchmarked standards, Georgia is reinforcing the foundations for safer and more efficient transport, a highly qualified workforce, and stronger international road transport connectivity.”
LTA Director Bakur Mikadze said, “Implementing the IRU Examiner framework marks a pivotal milestone for our sector, enabling us to transition from basic compliance to world-class professional standards that will future-proof our transport workforce and operations.”
Looking ahead, the ambition is to extend professional qualification requirements for drivers and transport managers beyond international operations to domestic freight and passenger transport.
By establishing robust systems for training, examination and certification today, Georgia is creating a foundation for this wider development.
