China opens new TIR Green Lane for faster cross-border trade

3 Jun 2026 · Prosperity

A new TIR Green Lane at the Alashankou border crossing between China and Kazakhstan is amplifying the benefits of the tried-and-tested TIR system.

The opening of the Alashankou TIR Green Lane marks another practical step in strengthening international transport by road between China, Central Asia and broader Eurasia. Alashankou is a key Chinese gateway for trade with Kazakhstan and beyond.

The TIR system enables the transport of goods from one country to another, transiting as many countries as needed along the way, via a secure, multilateral, multimodal and mutually recognised system.

Dedicated TIR Green Lanes make the system even more effective by further reducing waiting times and streamlining border traffic by separating low-risk from high-risk cargo. They demonstrate how infrastructure can be effectively combined with soft measures based on international and harmonised tools, guaranteeing transit security.

The launch of the TIR Green Lane follows joint efforts by IRU, its member CEVA Logistics, Alashankou authorities and customs.
