IRU, the world road transport organisation, and the International Transport Forum (ITF) have signed a new cooperation agreement ahead of the ITF 2026 Summit, fuelling their long-standing partnership.
This year’s ITF Summit will take place on 6–8 May in Leipzig, Germany, under the Presidency of Azerbaijan. It is the world's largest gathering of transport ministers and the premier global transport policy event.
IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto said, “IRU has been at the heart of the ITF summit for many years. We look forward to continuing our long-standing collaboration with ITF, transport ministers and other stakeholders at the annual Summit.”
“As the voice of the road transport industry, this is a crucial event to not only deal with challenges but ensure that we build on the opportunities in trade, sustainability and safety,” he added.
ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim said, “We’re delighted to once again have IRU with us as a key partner for the ITF Summit. As the voice of the global road transport sector and a long proponent of public-private collaboration, its perspective is essential to building more resilient transport systems.”
The Summit’s 2026 theme, "Funding Resilient Transport", is the second in the 2025-2027 ITF Summit trilogy on transport resilience. This year's Summit will explore measures to mobilise the investments and financing strategies needed to strengthen the resilience of transport systems for better long-term connectivity, efficiency and reliability.
