TIR cuts transport times between Saudi Arabia and Oman by 72%

18 Sep 2020 · Prosperity

The first TIR shipment from Saudi Arabia to Oman passed through the United Arab Emirates and arrived safely at its destination today marking a turning point in regional trade.

Almajdouie Logistics moved almost 20 tonnes of dairy products, taking advantage of the TIR electronic pre-declaration (EPD) to accelerate customs procedures. The use of TIR reduced the journey time from three days to just 20 hours.

This was the first TIR shipment handled by Oman Customs following the country’s accession to TIR. The landmark operation was completed with the support of IRU members in Oman, ASYAD and TIR issuing and guaranteeing association SINYAR, as well as the Saudi Automobile and Touring Association and the Automobile Touring Club of the UAE.

In the current pandemic context, this historic acceleration in border crossing times will enable the GCC to play its role as a global trade hub.
