Oman reinforces commitment to TIR and Congress success

16 Aug 2018

High-level talks on TIR accession and the countdown to the IRU World Congress were held in Oman this week, with IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto meeting with the country’s transport minister and logistics leaders.

Reinforcing commitment to TIR and the delivery of the Congress, His Excellency Dr Ahmed Mohammed Salem Al-Futaisi, the Minister of Transport and Communication, and Abdulrahman bin Salem Al Hatmi, CEO of Congress host ASYAD, Oman’s national logistics group, met with Mr de Pretto today to review final preparations.

The IRU World Congress, to be held in Muscat from 6 to 8 November 2018, will bring together industry and government leaders from around the world to tackle transport and trade challenges in both goods and passenger transport.

Oman’s strategic location as a trade hub and its dynamic investment strategy to become a logistics leader over the coming years, both regionally and globally, makes it an ideal venue for engaging transport and trade leaders from around the world at the Congress.

“We are very pleased with the strong partnership between IRU, ASYAD and the Omani government to ensure the IRU World Congress is a success”, said Umberto de Pretto. “As a result of our collective efforts, I believe this event will have a transformative impact that will resonate throughout our industry for years to come”.

Key topics on the Congress agenda include logistics and intermodal freight, trade facilitation, innovation and technology, autonomous vehicles, digitalisation, road safety and sustainability.
