IRU pushes for greater transit efficiency in West and Central Africa region

27 Apr 2018

IRU organised a workshop with the World Customs Organization, Africa Transport Policy Programme (hosted by the World Bank), and the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Organisation, gathering representatives from the public and private sectors in Cotonou, Benin, to discuss efficient and effective transit regimes for the region.

Referencing and promoting the WCO Transit Guidelines launched in July 2017 – which emphasise the importance of international systems like TIR in modernising transit – the workshop participants strategised to improve the effectiveness of transit regimes in the region, as well as to support and promote existing best practices.

The workshop was attended by member customs administrations, industry associations, national guarantors and shippers’ councils, other private sector entities, regional economic communities and development partners.
