War in Iran: IRU launches road transport information hub

17 Mar 2026 · Corporate

To support the industry amid trade disruptions and rising fuel prices, IRU has launched a dedicated information hub with real-time alerts, fuel prices, border crossing maps, calls for government action, and more.

The war in Iran and conflict across the Middle East are impacting road transport operators directly on the ground and indirectly through high and volatile fuel prices.

IRU’s new information hub provides:

  • Real-time alerts: Normally available exclusively to IRU members, we have opened access to our Flash Info alerts on the situation in Iran and across the Middle East.
  • Fuel prices: Based on our fuel price service, we publish an analysis every Friday. For weekly fuel price updates, try IRU’s fuel price service for free
  • Border crossing points: Our map provides information on the status of border crossings in the region.

IRU members, partners and Intelligence subscribers can also access the weekly updated Intelligence Monitoring on the economic impact of the war in Iran.

How governments can help

The hub includes measures for governments to ease the impact on transport operators providing critical services to communities and businesses across the region, including by:

  • Releasing oil reserves to help stabilise fuel prices
  • Reducing fuel taxes, which often represent a large share of the pump price
  • Facilitating driver visas to allow foreign drivers to transit countries more easily
  • Opening borders without requiring trailer body swaps, simplifying operations and lowering transport costs

At the EU level, we have called on the European Commission's President to coordinate the release of strategic oil reserves, enable temporary flexibility on fuel excise duties, and allow targeted crisis support for companies under EU state aid rules.

IRU is in direct contact with operators on the ground and coordinating with authorities to support drivers and transport operations.
