CASIC joins IRU to bridge automotive standards and transport needs

8 Oct 2026 · Corporate

The China Automobile Standards Internationalization Center (CASIC) has joined IRU as its newest member, strengthening cooperation between China’s automotive industry and the global road transport community.

CASIC works to advance the internationalisation of automotive standards and regulations.

IRU and CASIC will work together to foster dialogue between automotive manufacturers, standardisation experts, policymakers and operators, helping ensure that technological innovation responds to the practical needs of the sector.

The cooperation will focus on key areas shaping the future of road transport, including vehicle technologies, electrification and decarbonisation, intelligent and connected vehicles, automated driving, vehicle safety, digitalisation and access to vehicle-generated data.

IRU Secretary General Habib Turki said, “Vehicle technologies and standards must evolve hand in hand with the operational needs of transport companies. CASIC’s membership will strengthen engagement between the automotive and road transport sectors, helping ensure that innovation translates into safer, more efficient and sustainable mobility.”

CASIC Chief Representative Chun Lu said, “CASIC aims to further drive the development of the global automotive industry via standards and regulatory frameworks. Cooperation with IRU creates valuable opportunities for us to exchange with relevant stakeholders worldwide on diverse key topics. We will jointly advance the sustainable development of the automotive industry.”

CASIC’s membership builds on growing cooperation between IRU and China’s automotive sector. Particular attention will be given to improving dialogue at the international level, including through relevant United Nations regulatory and standardisation forums.

By connecting automotive research, technological innovation and standardisation expertise with the operational experience of transport companies, IRU and CASIC will support the development of internationally harmonised standards and market-driven solutions.
