bp partners with IRU to expand e-charging infrastructure and its use

IRU and bp have joined forces to further develop public charging infrastructure for electric trucks.

Major global energy company bp and world road transport organisation IRU have entered into a strategic partnership to advance the deployment and visibility of electric truck charging, supporting customers in the electrification of commercial road transport.

The partnership will support IRU’s decarbonisation models and tools developed with and for the industry. As part of the partnership, bp’s public charging network for electric trucks will be integrated into IRU’s interactive heavy-duty vehicle charging map, providing operators with greater visibility of available charging infrastructure and helping them plan and operate electric truck routes with greater confidence.

Vincent Erard, IRU’s Senior Director for Strategy and Development, said, "Efficiency and alternative fuels are key drivers in decarbonising road transport. Logistics operators need clarity, practical tools and support as they work to electrify their fleets. This strategic partnership with bp will help the sector – together with regulators, suppliers and fleet operators – improve the visibility of charging infrastructure, share valuable insights and build greater awareness to support the transition to lower-carbon road transport."

Alexander Junge, General Manager Germany/Luxembourg, bp pulse, said, "Decarbonising road transport requires more than the right vehicles and competitive total cost of ownership (TCO) – it requires confidence that reliable, accessible charging infrastructure will be available where and when operators need it. By partnering with IRU, we are improving the visibility of public charging for electric trucks, giving fleet operators the information and confidence they need to accelerate their transition to lower-carbon transport."

bp will engage with IRU’s network of transport operators, national associations and industry stakeholders, representing more than 3.5 million road transport operators worldwide.

The partnership will also provide practical insights from operators to support IRU’s work on the TCO of battery-electric vehicles, helping build a clearer understanding of the economic case for fleet electrification.
