Egala joins IRU to advance greener, smarter trucking

5 Nov 2026 · Corporate

European trucking capacity provider Egala has joined IRU as its newest member, bringing experience from a large international fleet and a strong focus on sustainability, digitalisation and workforce development.

Egala provides transport and logistics companies with trucks and professional drivers that they deploy as their own fleet. This gives them access to flexible trucking capacity without having to build it themselves.

By joining IRU, Egala aims to deepen cooperation with the wider road transport community and contribute more actively to international industry discussions.

Egala’s priority areas include decarbonising with lower- and zero-emission transport, workforce challenges such as driver recruitment, skills development and the attractiveness of the profession, and digitalisation. It uses in-house digital tools, real-time fleet visibility, automation and data analysis to support more efficient and resilient operations.

Through IRU working groups, consultations and industry initiatives, Egala plans to share its experience while drawing on IRU's international network, regulatory expertise and market intelligence.

IRU Secretary General Habib Turki said, “Egala's combination of operational scale, technology and practical experience will add real value to our network. Road transport's green and digital transition depends in part on companies testing new solutions, sharing what works, and helping turn innovation into something that small and large operators can use every day.”

Egala CEO Sjef Boekestijn said, “Our industry faces the same challenges across every border: driver shortages, the energy transition and customers who need more flexibility. As a trucking capacity provider, we see these challenges every day through the eyes of our customers. By joining IRU, we want to share what we learn from running around 2,000 trucks across Europe, including what works and what doesn't, and learn from operators who face the same questions.”

With around 2,000 trucks and around 3,000 drivers operating across Europe, Egala combines an international fleet and extensive cross-border operations with a strong focus on technology, people and sustainability. Its trucks and drivers support customers across a wide range of segments, including full truckload, temperature-controlled freight, dangerous goods transport, high-value cargo, container transport, and dry and liquid bulk operations.

Headquartered in Żerniki, Poland, Egala has roots going back to 1994.
