On land and at sea: digitalisation and novel transport practices

DFDS keeps Europe moving through a wide range of freight services from ferry transport to complex logistics solutions.

We have 11,000 employees, DKK 27 billion in yearly revenue and connect more than 20 countries.

Since its foundation in 1866, DFDS built a unique infrastructure of ferry routes connecting European countries with each other as well as with Türkiye. We mostly transport freight units on the routes in addition to around 5 million passengers in a normal year. We also offer logistics services rooted in the regions served by our ferry routes. They range from door-to-door transports of full-loads to complex solutions for major industrials.

As a project manager in the DFDS Logistics Transformation team, I am involved in initiatives related to digital pricing and digital sales, standardisation of the very fast growing DFDS Logistics organisation and pioneer projects to drive operational efficiencies.

With our clear focus on digitalisation and interactions with other digitally minded companies, we see a big potential in the creation of win-win value propositions through cost reduction with higher process efficiency, decreased CO₂ footprint and additional revenue.

In the future, we hope to interact even more with like-minded organisations to accelerate the use of novel practices such as digital reload sourcing and other approaches to tackle complex issues such as costly empty repositioning!
