IRU Position on roadside inspections and roadworthiness tests - 2011

To improve road safety and prevent hazards for other road users, the IRU and its Members are convinced that all road transport vehicles must be correctly maintained and repaired, and that vehicles need better technical solutions at source to ensure higher durability performance. To avoid unjustified fines and extra costs to transport companies, roadside checks, as well as roadworthiness inspections, should be standardised and harmonised between all EU Member States, and the frequency and length of inspections should be clearly defined and harmonised in all EU countries to guarantee minimum time-wasting and the most cost-efficient vehicle inspections to transport operators.
