Common IRU Position on fine dust concerning goods and passenger transport, (2006)

As the European Union has progressively set limits to the concentration of air pollutants in ambient air, in particular particulate matters and fine dust, the IRU stresses that road transport is only one of the many causes of air pollution and that the industry is already making huge business efforts, such as investing in Euro 4 and Euro 5 vehicles. The problem of air quality should be tackled in a fair way by introducing a level playing field for all modes of transport. Furthermore, an interactive policy must be developed between the road transport industry, local authorities and their administration to draw up sustainable urban transport plans.
