Moving people and goods more sustainably

Raluca Marian, Director EU Advocacy and General Delegate of the Permanent Delegation will participate in the panel discussion on UVARs and parking management from 14:15h to 15:30h on 21 September.
Other speakers include:

  • Patrick Auwerx, Coordinator Park4SUMP, Mobiel 21
  • Lucy Sadler, Uvarbox and CIVITAL REVEAL Expert
  • Remy Russotto, CEO of CORTE, Uvarexchange Expert
  • Václav Lukeš, Mobility Specialist, Department of Transport, City of Prague

In Europe, the majority of UVARs concern low (and zero) emission zones. UVARs represent a measure to comply with EU air quality standards and to limit congestion and traffic-borne emissions. Furthermore, they also incentivise the use of public transport and active mobility, reducing the access of more polluting vehicles to sensitive urban areas. Parking management policies are also a useful tool for cities to attain these objectives. It is however important that where they are deployed they allow for seamless and user-friendly travel across the single market, without leading to discrimination of non-resident drivers. Moreover, cities are often unable to properly enforce effective and functional schemes. These challenges are particularly serious for foreign vehicles, even when they have zero emissions.
