Online launch: Global Report on Women in Tourism Transport

Madrid (hybrid) | IRU participation

Transport is the backbone of the global tourism sector, yet women remain significantly underrepresented, particularly in technical and leadership roles.

The Global Report on Women in Tourism Transport was developed to both measure and help close these gaps.

As the first report to examine women’s participation across air, land and water passenger transport, it provides an in-depth analysis of women’s role in the sector and highlights the legal, cultural and structural barriers that hinder gender equality.

It presents data on women’s participation in tourism transport employment, identifies key challenges related to gender equality, decent and secure work, and outlines practical measures to promote women’s empowerment and equal opportunities in the sector.

The webinar in the morning, together with the high-level launch event in the afternoon, will present the report’s key findings and action plan, aimed at advancing gender equality and fostering dialogue on the challenges, opportunities and pathways towards a more inclusive tourism transport sector.

IRU Policy Adviser Clara Sánchez López will explain why road passenger transport has by far the lowest share of women employed in the tourism industry and why it is important for the sector to attract more women.
