This IRU side event will take place during the ITF Summit , which is the world's largest gathering of transport ministers and the premier global transport policy event.
Under the Presidency of Azerbaijan, the 2026 edition will be on "Funding Resilient Transport". It is the second in the 2025-2027 Summit trilogy on transport resilience.
Transport systems are increasingly vulnerable to overlapping crises, from climate change and extreme weather to geopolitical tensions, pandemics, and cyber-attacks. These growing threats highlight the urgent need to invest in transport resilience as a foundation for long-term sustainability and global stability.
The 2026 Summit brings together governments, financial leaders, international organisations, the private sector, academia and civil society to shape our transport future.
IRU will host a panel discussion on 6 May, from 17:00 to 18:00, on More than money: How transport sector reform can unlock investment and drive safer, fairer and greener growth.
Transport is just one of many sectors fighting for investment from public and private sources, from home and abroad.
- How can a country attract more investment, and make the most of the investment that it does attract?
- Why do some countries attract transport investment effortlessly while others struggle?
- Why does more money not necessarily lead to better transport outcomes?
This session will explore the role of road transport sector reform in steering successful strategies that bring better investment returns for society, with perspectives from public and private sector actors.
