IRU workshop: Supporting electric fleet expansion with adapted driving and rest time rules

online | IRU event

Accessible electric recharging infrastructure dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles should become fully operational by the end of 2030. But battery electric vehicles are already being used today, including for long-distance transport. The lack of appropriate recharging infrastructure is creating challenges for drivers, such as meeting the stringent driving and rest time rules.

The industry is intensively reflecting on the issue, trying to come up with legal and practical solutions, such as clarifying driving and rest time rules and their interpretation, and, if needed, adapting them to account for the specific characteristics of battery electric charging and the lack of recharging facilities.

Join us to take stock of the key challenges and practical solutions currently available or planned for companies and drivers. We will also explore some scenarios that are emerging among key stakeholders, such as manufacturers, road transport operators, service stations, and secure truck parking operators.

The results of the workshop will be summarised in a draft industry approach and incorporated into a policy position on how to interpret and adapt driving and rest time rules.
