The Fifth Ministerial Conference on Transport, convened by ESCAP, assesses implementation of the Regional Action Programme for Sustainable Transport Development in Asia and the Pacific (2022–2026) and sets the agenda for the next programme (2027–2031).
IRU Secretary General Habib Turki and IRU Global Advocacy Director Jens Hügel will participate in the conference.
On 18 November, from 12:15 to 13:45, Habib Turki will take part in an ECO side event, addressing implementation of the Awaza Programme of Action 2024–2034 for landlocked developing countries, building on IRU and ECO’s ongoing joint work under their 2026–2027 Action Plan.
On 19 November, from 14:00 to 15:00, Habib Turki will speak at High-Level Roundtable 1: Transport Connectivity for a Resilient Future, bringing together transport ministers and heads of organisations to discuss how to move beyond infrastructure expansion towards transport connectivity that is efficient, sustainable, digitally enabled and resilient.
The roundtable will also launch the Regional Partnership for Resilient and Sustainable Transport Connectivity in Asia and the Pacific, a joint initiative of ESCAP, the International Transport Forum (ITF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and is moderated by Young Tae Kim, ITF Secretary General.
