Iran: Update on road transport border crossings

The current situation in Iran and neighbouring countries has affected goods transport links and services. IRU is monitoring the situation, particularly at land borders across the region.

Key points

  • No land border closures reported in the region at this stage.
  • Main disruption: major shipping lines have suspended operations via the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal routes. Combined with airspace closures, cargo supply is significantly affected.
  • Intraregional supply is currently relying on existing stocks in regional warehousing.
  • All customs offices in Iran are reported to be open and operational, continuing to accept foreign hauliers until further notice.
  • Shaheed Rajaei Port (Bandar Abbas) is reported to be fully operational for cargo handling activities.

Specific border crossing points

Türkiye – Iran

  • Gürbulak BCP: Open in both directions. Iranian-side technical issues mean passport procedures are handled manually, with slower processing.
  • Esendere BCP: Only Iranian vehicles are permitted to enter Iran. Exit of Turkish vehicles towards Iran is temporarily suspended.
  • Dilucu BCP: Operational, no issues reported.
  • Turkmenistan–Iran BCPs (Poldasht & Lutfabad): Closed over the weekend, except for Sarakhs BCP. Reopening of all crossing points is expected this afternoon (2 March).

Türkiye – Iraq

  • Habur BCP: No restrictions reported. Trucks continue to move without disruption. No transit issues reported to date for transports via Iraq.
  • Umm Qasr – Dubai Ro-Ro line: Temporarily suspended due to current developments. Awaiting official confirmation and further details from the ground.

Türkiye – Syria

  • No issues reported at Türkiye–Syria border crossings.

IRU will continue to monitor the situation and update this Flash Info in due course.
