The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) adopted today its position on the EU Driving Licence Directive, constituting a considerable step forward in eliminating crucial barriers discouraging entry into the bus and truck driver profession.

IRU has assessed the effectiveness and cost of three scenarios for commercial road transport to be carbon neutral by 2050 in Europe. A parallel focus on both efficiency measures and alternative fuels is less disruptive and less costly.

IRU brought together MEPs and trucking industry leaders from the United States in a decarbonisation dialogue at the European Parliament last week.

IRU and South Africa’s Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA) have extended their memorandum of understanding, strengthening their commitment to enhancing international transport, facilitating transit and professionalising road transport.
