IRU Position on access to the profession of road passenger and goods transport operator, (2007)
Road transport has become a tremendous tool to ensure people’s mobility and an indispensable part of the total supply chain from production to consumption. However, the qualitative criteria of access to the profession of road passenger and goods transport operator which are currently applied in many countries in Europe and beyond are partly incomplete by definition, and imperfect in their application. As a result, the IRU calls for the reinforcement and harmonisation of the qualitative criteria of access to the profession. Moreover, the IRU proposes the extension of the scope of legislation on access to the profession for road passenger transport operators to include the taxi and hire car with driver sector.
