The Group on Road Transport is a permanent intergovernmental working group of the International Transport Forum (ITF), mandated to manage the ECMT Multilateral Quota System, which allows international road freight operators to carry goods across participating countries using multilateral permits.
This session will cover updates on the ECMT Digital System and its API integration for bilateral permits, discussions on the future strategy of the multilateral quota system, a proposal to update the ECMT Guide, and the long-running debate on including light commercial vehicles (2.5–3.5 tonnes) in the quota system.
The meeting will also include a statistical survey on ECMT licence utilisation and an update on ongoing activities from the European Commission.
IRU is the only business representative within the Group on Road Transport.
IRU Senior Adviser - Global Advocacy Jens Hügel will update delegates on IRU's ongoing activities.
