Celebrating 70 years of CMR: challenges and innovations

Bucharest | IRU participation

2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Convention on the international carriage of goods by road (CMR). With 58 contracting parties in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, CMR presents a milestone in the international unification of transport law.

On 8–9 October 2026, the CMR Advisory Council and the University of Bucharest will jointly organise the 2nd CMR Colloquium. CMR experts will meet to discuss current issues relating to the interpretation and application of CMR in the road transport industry, as reflected in the case law of contracting states.

This CMR Colloquium will be held in Romania in recognition of the increased importance of Eastern Europe for the international road transport industry. For this reason, special attention will be given to the way in which courts and practitioners in Eastern Europe interpret and apply CMR in their case law.

It is a unique opportunity to refresh your knowledge, deepen your understanding of the CMR, and examine innovations and challenges.

IRU President Radu Dinescu will be speak at this event.
