Road Transport Section Conference

Johannesburg | IRU participation | Invitation only

The International Road Transport Workers' Federation organise the Road Transport Conference the 14th March 2023 in Johannesburg.

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, severe overlapping geopolitical, economic, social, and environmental crises have affected the road transport sector leading to supply chain instability and exacerbating the problems faced by road transport companies and workers. While the results have been varied, the road transport sector globally has faced supply chain bottle necks and labour shortages, while unfair competition puts pressure on workers and those companies that strive for compliance with international human rights and labour standards. At the same time, recent developments have provided openings for unions, employers and governments to work together to achieve greater supply chain stability and sustainability while improving human rights and labour compliance. Participants in the panel will discuss the main challenges they see as facing road transport today and how tripartite parties can work together to seek solutions.

Umberto De Pretto, IRU secretary general will participate to this panel between 9am to 10:30am.
