IRU Innovation and Technology Event – 2nd Edition

Brussels | IRU event | Invitation only

This edition’s theme is Driving Digital Transformation in Road Transport.

Bringing together operators, shippers, policymakers, OEMs and technology providers, the IRU Innovation and Technology Event will explore the latest developments in eCMR interoperability, access to in-vehicle data, EU and global regulatory developments, and emerging technologies.

Through strategic discussions, policy exchanges and industry presentations, participants will address key challenges facing the sector and contribute to the development of practical, interoperable and innovative solutions that support a more efficient, competitive and sustainable transport ecosystem.

The Innovation and Technology Roundtable will take place on 14 September, followed by a cocktail.

The Commission on Innovation and Technology (CIT) meeting – for IRU members only – will take place on 15 September. Non-members will be able to join from 11:00 onwards. The meeting will be followed by a visit to the European Commission and Parliament.

A central theme of the roundtable will be the implementation of electronic consignment notes (eCMR) and the importance of interoperability between digital platforms.

While the adoption of eCMR is accelerating across Europe, ensuring seamless data exchange between systems remains essential to unlock the full benefits of digital freight transport. Participants will explore current market developments, implementation experiences and the actions required to support wider uptake and cross-border interoperability.

CIT will provide an opportunity to review ongoing advocacy activities, discuss EU regulatory initiatives, and contribute to the Commission's future work programme. Particular attention will be given to digital transport legislation and the evolving framework governing access to vehicle-generated data.

The programme will also include a dedicated panel discussion on access to in-vehicle data, bringing together representatives from industry, technology providers and policymakers to examine how data can support innovation, new business models, operational efficiency and enhanced transport services while ensuring fair, secure and non-discriminatory access conditions.
