The objective of this report is to bring a better understanding of both cargo crime trends in Gulf counties and Regional Free Trade Zones and the methodologies employed by criminals operating in this region, in a context of economic return to pre-pandemic levels with a projection of significant growth in trade.
The report also examines the role special economic zones play in the Middle East. This role includes liberalising trade and normalising diplomatic relations, but also potentially facilitating crimes affecting the supply chain, such as contraband smuggling.
