On the sidelines of the World Congress held in Muscat, IRU signed a memorandum of understanding with South Africa’s Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA), to reduce barriers to trade in Southern Africa.
Establishing a framework for collaboration between the two organisations to implement concrete actions to reduce obstacles to the movement of goods by road, the MoU forms part of the far reaching legacy of the World Congress, notably with the Muscat Compact launching a pathway to the future for the industry.
One of a number of side meetings involving national and regional delegations, the signing took place on 7 November 2018, during the event.
Umberto de Pretto, IRU Secretary General said, "Some of the world’s highest trade costs can be found in Africa and IRU is working to support governments and the private sector to reduce these costs."
