CIS welcomes IRU work on bus & coach issues

15 Feb 2017

IRU’s “Smart Move” high-level working group in the CIS region presented its experts’ review of the CIS Convention on International Road Transport of Passengers and Baggage (October 9, 1997, Bishkek) to the CIS Commission on Economic Affairs of the Economic Council. The review was positively received and will be used to help update the Convention.

International conventions and agreements are pivotal for cross-border mobility. Tackling current inefficiencies in road transport services can yield significant benefits for customers, operators and society, promoting the use of buses and coaches as a clean, safe and sustainable form of collective passenger transport.

Members of the Commission on Economic Affairs, also learnt about the launching of market monitoring to take a closer look at bus and coach transport in the CIS region, starting with the countries of Central Asia.
