IRU and Association of European Vehicle Logistics call on all European countries to adopt e-CMR

26 Jan 2017

The Association of European Vehicle Logistics (ECG) has partnered with IRU to disseminate a circular calling on all European countries to accede to the e-CMR protocol.

With the benefits of e-CMR clearly demonstrated by the recent border crossing between France and Spain, the publication communicates a strong message outlining the advantages of electronic logistics data transfer.

According to Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN) for example, savings on the administrative costs alone for the 40 million paper CMR consignment notes used each year in the Netherlands for cross-border road transport could reach up to EUR 180 million annually.

The circular also gives weight to the role of electronic consignment notes within United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s broader remit to standardise CMR messages.
