Skills Training And the Road Transport Sector
IRU has teamed up with the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) to help IRU members develop workforces that are efficient, skilled, and sustainable. The EU-based ‘STARTS’ programme, which stands for Skills Training And the Road Transport Sector involves a consortium of partners and aims to:
Identify trends in the road transport industry;
Develop training programmes to help drivers and non-mobile workers obtain new skills; and
Reduce the cost burden of education programmes in the industry.
STARTS came about because new laws, procedures, and complicated product requirements all have an effect on the day-to-day running of an transport business. Professionals in this industry need to constantly learn new skills to ensure they’re up to date with the latest changes.
