As the biggest package for many years of road transport legislative proposals arrive for discussion by the European Parliament's Transport & Tourism Committee IRU will provide members with an opportunity to lobby their national Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). IRU will also organise a dinner debate to inform MEPs & key decision makers about IRU's views on the Mobility Package and its effect on freight and bus & coach operators as well as the essential role of road transport in facilitating Europe's economy.
The dinner date, 'European road transport at a crossroads - which way now?' will take place in the European Parliament on the evening of 12 September. Attendance by IRU members is strictly limited to one place per organisation due to capacity constraints.
The event is graciously hosted by Ismail Ertug MEP, a member of the European Parliament Transport & Tourism Committee and policy coordinator on transport for the S&D group, and an MEP from the Parliament’s EPP Group.
A limited number of hotel rooms have been reserved at the Hilton Hotel, Strasbourg. Members are urged to make reservations as soon as possible as unallocated rooms will be released in stages on 12 July and finally on 11 August.
Members intending to travel independently to Strasbourg should also note that a national strike is being planned by French trade unions for 12 September that could bring significant disruption.
