BUS2BUS Congress & Exhibition

25-26 Apr 2017 Europe Berlin

IRU is the official supporter of the BUS2BUS Congress and Exhibition. This trade event will premiere on 25 and 26 April 2017 at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. IRU will organise two round tables in the framework of the ‘Future Forum’ - one on the future of coach tourism on 25 April and one dedicated to innovation in the inter-city coach market on 26 April.

Berlin – a hot spot for the bus and coach industry – is where BUS2BUS focuses on the key themes that will shape the future of this business sector. This new industry event brings bus operators together with vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, service providers, and visionaries.

    • IRU Round Table I: Future Scenarios for Coach Tourism: Challenges and Opportunities

    25 April 2017, 15:15 - 16:00

As the result of change and innovation, the tourism, and in particular group tourism by coach landscape, is constantly evolving. IRU, together with members and partners, is currently looking into the role and place of coaches in the increasingly digitalised, inclusive, and accessible future mobility chain. The purpose of the session would be to present the results of the IRU study on the matter and explore the opportunities and challenges that exist in making the most of this potential together with leading stakeholders.

    Key questions:

    • What are the main trends affecting the future of group tourism by coach?
    • What coaches do we want to see in 2030 and 2050?
    • Is there a place for small and medium-sized companies?

    Keynote:

Dr. Sven Maerivoet, Transport & Mobility Leuven „Future scenarios for coach tourism: challenges and opportunities”

    Keynote Panel:

    • Dr. Fabio Figus, CEO, Linea Azzurra Srl
    • Dr. Matthias Mohaupt, Head of Department for Transport Development Planning, City of Dresden

    • Dominik Eggert, Director Charter, FlixBus

    • IRU Round Table II: VISION 2030 for Buses and Coaches Innovation and New Business Models in Intercity Scheduled Coach Transport

    26 April 2017, 11:00 - 11:45

The recent opening of the intercity coach market for scheduled services in several core EU Member States unleashed a wave of innovations at all levels – companies, services, business models, the image of the sector. Customers also followed suit, and the use of scheduled intercity coach services more than doubled in the first years after the market opening in Germany and France. Integrators and digital platforms also entered this – until very recently traditional – business, making today’s coach market resembling much more the airline travel market, rather than the railway one.

    Key questions:

    • What role for intercity coaches in the current and future mobility chains?
    • Which business models will win customers’ votes?
    • Is there a place for small and medium-sized companies?

    Keynote:

Dr Sven Maerivoet, Researcher, Transport and Mobility Leuven

“A Vision 2030 for Buses and Coaches in the increasingly digitalised, accessible and connected mobility chain”, presentation of preliminary study results

    Panel:

    • Max Zeumer, VP International Business, FlixBus
    • Sylvain Gaboriaud, Commercial Director, Ouibus
    • Marc Hofmann, CEO, Checkmybus

Chaired by Oleg Kamberski, Head-Passenger Transport & Taxis, IRU Permanent Delegation to the EU

Language: English with simultaneous translation in German
