TIR soon to be operational in Pakistan

27 Jan 2017

A guarantee agreement on TIR was signed today at the Custom House in Karachi, bringing operations of the global transit system ever closer for Pakistan.

The agreement demonstrates the required level of understanding reached by the main TIR players in the country and paves the way for the system to start moving goods across Pakistan’s borders, saving time and money for transport operators and customs authorities.

This important new milestone establishes a solid base for the successful start of TIR implementation in Pakistan.

Signatories of the guarantee agreement are the Federal Board of Revenue and IRU member, the Pakistan National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (PNC-ICC). The two organisations also entered into a trilateral memorandum of understanding with IRU, sealing a three-way collaboration, which concludes months of active work to facilitate the successful operation of TIR in Pakistan.
