IRU Resolution on the introduction of Euro 5 standards, (2005)
The IRU strongly supports Euro standards as an efficient way to massively reduce vehicle emissions. However, it deplores the fact that incentives, provided from the outset for the purchase of Euro standard vehicles, nearly all stopped at Euro 2 standard and that nothing has been foreseen for the purchase of higher Euro standards (Euro 3, 4 and 5). The IRU stresses that the industry is ready to purchase Euro 5 vehicles as soon as they are available on the market but that governments, in turn, must provide effective incentives to help transport operators purchase Euro 4 and Euro 5 vehicles.
