IRU Position on the proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on services in the internal market, (2004)
Transport services are not included in the proposal for a Directive aimed at liberalising services in the internal market where barriers still exist. Taxi services however, could be included in the scope of this proposal, as they are not covered by the Transport Chapter of the treaty. The IRU urges the Commission to exclude Taxi services from the scope of this proposal and to introduce strict quality rules on access to the profession based on the citeria of good repute, financial standing and professional competence.
