IRU Position on the installation and use of safety belts in sleeper coaches, (2005)
Although sleeper coaches have been subject to controversy due to several accidents in the past, the IRU objects to a complete ban on such vehicles and urges seat manufacturers to come forward with technical proposals to ensure that safety belts can be worn, even when in a sleeping position. The IRU also calls for appropriate EU rules on the installation of safety belts in sleeper coaches.
