IRU Position on the implementation of the European Commission Road Safety Action Programme 2011-2020, (2010)
This IRU Position supports the implementation of the European Commission Road Safety Action Programme 2011-2020, which aims to cut road fatalities in Europe by half in the next decade. However, the IRU urges the European Commission to start preparing the measures to implement the programme, including actions such as professional driver training and awareness building for other road users, pursue the research initiated by the European Truck Accidents Causation Study (ETAC) , support the IRU academy and IRU Member training organisations, encourage manufacturers to provide proven active and passive safety system, harmonise national roadworthiness testing procedures and enforcement, as well as help locate secure parking areas for trucks.
